Project: Exeter Library
Client: Exeter County Council
Contractor: Balfour Beatty
Value: £4.1 million
Timescales: Sept 2013 and completed Spring 2014
This public sector project called for the BWM Commercial team to help refurbish Exeter Library. With the original 1960s’ building becoming outdated and in need of renovation, Balfour Beatty and BWM Commercial stepped in to bring this much loved building up to date.
The project called for an array of different skills and expertise to be exercised. We installed curtain walling with structural bonded opening vents and automatic door entrances to update the aesthetics and performance of the building itself. We installed high performance solar glass, to reduce uncomfortable solar gain that the library could often suffer with in summer. A range of sustainable technology such as photovoltaic solar cells and environmental temperature controls was also installed, to help reduce the carbon footprint of the building.
